When you think of a Wholesome Family you think of a two parent household, mom, dad, kids and a white picket fence. Basically the american dream as they say. When I think of the word “Family” I think of my family which is very different in a way, from others. I was raised by a single parent like most folks are. The thing that makes mine so unique is that it wasn’t what “others” considered normal. I was raised by my mother, her gay adopted brother and friends who we considered family. When they say “Friends are the family you choose” it rings true for me. Some may see it as odd, but to us it was pretty normal and no different from anyone else. Our family unit was very diverse because we were a multi-cultural family and because of this diversity we were exposed to so many new things. I am so grateful that I am able to be apart of such an amazing family dynamic, it made me who I am today.
When I heard about the “this is wholesome” campaign by HoneyMaid it really hit home for me. Because it related to my family and I so much. It showed that not every family is the same, that we are all different and unique in our own special way. That what you may consider to be the norm for you may not be the same for others. I remember in my household we would always have a box of HoneyMaid in our home, it was the staple treat in our family. We would all get together for a big family event and make smores with ice cream while watching movies. When I would go to school I would always bring along a baggy full of Teddy Grahams and my classmates would always want to trade their treats with my brother and I. Needless to say it was a big no for both of us, okay I’m kidding I did share but I was a bit reluctant haha; could you blame me?. My mother knew it was a very wholesome treat to give to us, it did not have any high fructose syrup and it tasted great. I am so happy that this campaign gave me a chance to speak about how wonderful and unique my family is. And allowed me to share my love for Honey Maid graham crackers, sometimes little things make a big difference in one’s life and these moments my family and I shared with this wholesome treat always brings a smile to my face and brings back good memories.
