If you are unhappy seeing size “Zero” models plastered on magazines, or hearing “thin” used as a synonym for “pretty”, think again! For centuries, women with a much fuller figure have been considered more attractive. Not to say one is more beautiful than the other, but in a society that is so saturated with the ideal of thin being the only type of beautiful it’s refreshing to know that voluptuous figures were celebrated in history.
Three examples of the “curvy figure” in classical paintings are the depictions of Venus “The Roman goddess of Love, Beauty and Desire” …The Maja by the Spanish artist Francisco Goya and Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres from France another artist that was inspired by the curvier woman.
Portrait by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres
These paintings depict these women as voluptuous, strong ,sensual women.
When I heard world-renowned Artist Fernando Ferreiro was dedicating his time to portray the most beautiful curvy women on earth I was overcome with joy. He revealed he wants to do a special drawing as a personal tribute to all the curvy women in the world, he states
“ After lots of portraits of the most beautiful curvy women from all over the world, I want to do a special drawing as personal tribute to all these women and all the curvy women of the world. Artistically, curvy women are my best inspiration because they represent all the best of the female beauty: confidence, positivism, health and happiness. A full body portrait is my way of thanking them for this inspiration, thanking them for teaching us that beauty has no size. I think I owe it to them.”
Being a curvy girl myself I was so touched by his announcement and how he embraces our curvy community, a community that has sometimes been ridiculed and bullied because we are not a size 0 and no matter what size we are… we are beautiful in our special kind of way. I will keep you posted on this tribute portrait..
