What does it mean to be a Nueva Latina this day and age? Adrienne Bailon explained what makes her a Nueva Latina and why her culture has influenced her in everything she has done. I had the honor to attend a web chat with Adrienne Bailon, she is a television host, actress, musician, fashionista and more. It was a very memorable chat, she is so funny and bubbly and very inspirational. I remember asking her on the chat “What Advice do you have for Latina entrepreneurs as yourself” “She said give it your all don’t half ass it, be confident in everything you do” She also said: Do something you haven’t done before, be yourself, get yourself out there, don’t be afraid of doing what you love.
What DOES it mean to be a Latina of today? How do you balance living in two worlds and still celebrate your heritage and embrace your American lifestyle? Being a Nueva Latina means that you are strong, passionate, confident in yourself and very loving. You keep your hispanic traditions alive in this new and hectic world we live in. Sometimes it’s a bit hard to embrace our culture when we live in a world that is so fast paced. But I know in my family and many other hispanic families make time to keep up with traditions. One thing I always remembered when I was a child was the women in my family, from Abuelita,Tia and Mami all talking while cooking dinner, I know Adrienne mentioned this was one of her favorites parts of growing up.
She touched on teaching our kids of the future to speak their language, I agree with this. I think it’s wonderful to be able to speak two languages and gives you so many more opportunities. As a bicultural community, we represent strong, independent women who celebrate having the best of two worlds: one being rooted in their Hispanic culture and the other seizing their limitless potential in the U.S.: The Nueva Latina! It was so cool to hear she is from my hometown NYC and she remembers going to those cuchifritos stores and restaurants in Brooklyn,Bronx etc. Speaking about foods, in the facebook chat we spoke about Latin dishes we love, and boy did that get everyone’s mouth watering for abuelita’s cooking. It had me craving dominican sancocho for a week! Food is something in our culture that brings our family together, we are very passionate about our families which I think is a great thing.
Some tips from Adrienne Bailon were:
Fall Must Haves: Hip Hugging Jeans to show of your curves and Booties!
Being latina gave her purpose in the things she does. It makes her more driven to achieve more.
Find something you truly love about yourself, whether it’s a feature or talent and own it, embrace it love it!
Be Driven and go for your dreams!
The Main thing I heard Adrienne said was Support Each other, in order for for everyone to succeed is to be supportive of one another. Adrienne is everything that a Nueva Latina should be and I am so happy she goes for her dreams and never gives up she is such an inspiration.

And i’m here to help and give tips on how to achieve this. I want to show that you can still be a Fierce and Fabulous Curvy Gal on a thrift store budget.
