Have you had allergy face? I have and It’s pretty darn annoying especially if you have applied makeup. I always find myself blowing my nose and rubbing my eyes after I apply makeup. It’s allergy season and as an allergy sufferer I can tell you that I am always looking for tips on how to combat my allergies. To be honest I have not been able to breathe though my nose in months and it’s quiet uncomfortable. So I have been looking for simple and easy ways to help other allergy suffers like myself. I wanted to gather a few tips from my Abuelita y Mama on how to beat allergy face with simple home remedies and some tips.
One thing I have found helpful is wearing big dark sunglasses it helps reduce the amount of pollen getting into your eyes. It has been proven that 35 million Americans get hay fever from airborne allergens. I can so testify to this, I live in south Florida I would be driving down the highway and boom! something hits my eye and I am having an allergy fit, then all of my makeup gets ruined. It has been proven that 96% of all allergy suffers, suffer from puffy face, red nose and watery eyes.
Here are a few beauty tips I gathered up to help you beat allergy face:
- Puffy Eyes: Wash off your eyes, stay indoors, use a cold compresses around the eyes it can can be helpful with itching and swelling. Staying indoors can even help reduce puffy eyes.
- Red Nose:I have found combating red nose with concealers is best. Concealers with a slight yellow base are great for redness. The yellow tint knocks out the red color and makes it look natural.
- Watery Eyes: You know how your allergies cause you to have watery eyes, well I have the solution to keep your beautiful eyeshadow and liners from running. First get a concealer brush and a pressed powder, all you do is line the skin under your lashes with a bit of pressed powder to keep your makeup from running down your face. Viola!
- Runny Nose: Take your medication in a timely manner. Do a salt water gargle, then rinse your nostrils out with the solution.

In part two, “Generations of Beauty Advice,” Carmen shares beauty tips that have been passed down from her mama y abuelita, including:
- How to Avoid Irritating a Red Nose: Use baby wipes instead of tissues, which are gentler on the skin.
- How to Refresh Your ALLERGY FACE™: Place two metal spoons in the refrigerator and then place the back of the spoons on your eyelids for five minutes.
- How to Relieve a Puffy Face: Try drinking watermelon juice. Watermelons are a high water content fruit and are an excellent source of antioxidants.
- How to Help Hydrate a Puffy Face: Eat more fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, celery and zucchini all of which have high water content. Citrus fruits and berries are also rich in vitamin C.
- Some other useful tips from Carmen include:
- Throw away old makeup! Remember that mascara should be tossed out every two months, foundations and concealers every year and lipsticks should be checked for discoloration every three months.
- It’s important to wash dirty makeup brushes monthly. Just use a small amount of shampoo, face wash or antibacterial hand soap and rub it through the bristles and then rinse thoroughly with warm water.
